The new Audi RS 5 Coupé

The new Audi RS 5 Coupé was revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show as the newest addition to the Audi A5 range. The car features an all-new 2.9 TFSI biturbo engine that produces 450hp and delivers 600Nm of torque. This new engine has been developed from the ground up and offers a sharp increase in power and efficiency as well as an unmistakable full-bodied RS sound. This power, which flows through an eight-speed tiptronic with optimised shift times to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds. With the standard RS sport suspension the new Audi RS 5 Coupé sits much lower than the production model. RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control, ceramic brakes and dynamic steering with RS-specific tuning is also available.

“The new Audi RS 5 Coupé is the gran turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The high-performance Coupé combines elegant aesthetics with high everyday usability. The car’s V6 biturbo has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, in describing the new model.

Inspiration for the RS 5 Coupé comes from the distinctive racing details of the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. Large air inlets with the familiar RS model honeycomb structure feature on the front end of the model along with a Singleframe grille which is much wider and flatter than in the base model and additional lateral air intakes and outlets beside the headlights. Sporty accents come in the form of the RS-specific diffuser insert, the oval tailpipes of the exhaust system and the surface-mounted spoiler lip. 19-inch wheels feature as standard with an option to upgrade to 20-inch wheels and the car itself is almost 3 inches longer than the previous model.

The interior of the Coupé is bathed in black with details such as RS sport seats with optional diamond stitching in Fine Nappa leather, a flat-bottomed RS multifunction sport steering wheel and RS logos on the seats, steering wheel, door sill trims and the selector lever which emphasises the vehicle's sport credentials. Audi virtual cockpit ensures that important information is always in view such as tyre pressure, torque and g-forces. Add the head-up display to this and you'll always have the information you need right in front of you. Red is used as a contrasting colour throughout the interior design with the steering wheel, selector lever and knee pads in Alcantara plus seatbelts contoured in red and floor mats with the RS emblem.

The driver and passengers can also enjoy a range of infotainment inside the vehicle. The optional MMI navigation plus with MMI touch includes Audi connect to keep the new RS 5 Coupé connected and allows passengers to go online with their mobile devices using the wifi hotspot option. Selected apps are available in a seperate MMI menu thanks to Audi smartphone interface which uses Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The controls are easy to use and intuitive with features such as natural voice control, free text search and the multifunction steering wheel. The touchpad in the centre console can be used to zoom, scroll and enter characters.
