The 308's styling is extremely distinctive and it adds a touch of flair to the sometimes conventional family sector. It's a dynamic, bold treatment with a wedge shaped profile and a long front overhang that ups the sporty edge. Luggage space is well catered for with a 430 litre boot that stretches to 1,398 litres with the rear seats folded. If that's not enough, there's an SW estate version of the 308 that runs to a colossal 2,149 litres of stowage. Given the 308's bold exterior the interior is more understated and chic than you would initially expect. It's an upmarket treatment with high spec 308s embellished with quality plastics and plenty of chrome.

The option of engines is broad and buyers will find it easy to tailor their 308 to their desired spec and ability. First stop is a 1.4 litre petrol unit that produces 95bhp and a 120bhp 1.6 litre alternative. The range topping petrol unit comes in the shape of a turbocharged 150bhp 1.6 that performs the 0 - 60 sprint in under 9 seconds, there's also a 175bhp version that cuts the timing even further. The diesels start with a 1.6 litre unit that's available as a 90 or 110bhp alternative. Enhanced power is available with the 2.0 litre 136bhp engine with a particulate filter to cut down emissions and increase economy to around 51.3mpg.
