With scrappage schemes now on offer from an ever-growing range of car manufacturers, now could be the perfect time to trade-in and trade-up to a new, environmentally-friendly model. The Audi scheme to remove more polluting cars off the road replaces any part-exchange value for the vehicle being traded in and is not available in conjunction with any other offers. It applies to deals on new EU6 TFSI petrol, TDI diesel or e-tron plug-in hybrid Audi models.
BMW’s diesel scrappage scheme allows drivers to trade in any Euro-4-rated diesel car against a new BMW. In return, you’ll get a £2,000 saving on top of your trade-in car’s value. The scheme is open to those who purchase any BMW electric or hybrid car, or any BMW model that emits less than 130g/km of CO2.
The Ford scheme focusses less on diesel specifically and allows any petrol or diesel Euro-4 rated car registered by 31 December 2009 to be traded in. In return, Ford will give allows up to £2,000 off any of its new Euro-6-rated models and will scrap the trade-in car to permanently in order to remove it from the roads.
Hyundai’s scrappage scheme lets you trade in any petrol or diesel car from any brand that’s rated Euro 4 or earlier and was registered before 31 December 2009. The Korean company also offers a variable cash incentive if you trade in for a new i10, i20, i30, i40, ix20, Tucson, Santa Fe or Ioniq Hybrid.
Mercedes’ diesel scrappage scheme operates differently than the others. Rather than increasing the value of the trade-in car, the firm will offer up to an extra £2,000 discount off any new plug-in hybrid or diesel-powered Mercedes model. This changeover bonus is available regardless of the existing car brand and is valid against the purchase of a new Mercedes-Benz diesel EU6 passenger car, Mercedes-Benz plug-in-hybrid passenger car or a smart electric drive model.
The Mini diesel scrappage scheme is essentially the same as BMW’s. That means the company will will give you an extra £2,000 on top of your car’s trade-in value regardless of its age, condition or current value. Again, the scheme can be applied to any Mini model that emits less than 130g/km of CO2 or has a hybrid powertrain.
The Vauxhall scrappage scheme is one of the more flexible arrangements – you can trade in any petrol or diesel car from any brand with any emissions rating. Vauxhall will make up the car’s trade-in value to £2,000 when you swap it out for one of its new Adam, Corsa, Astra, Astra GTC or Mokka X models.
Any pre-2010 diesel vehicle can be traded-in until December 31st to receive the discount.
Drivers must have owned the car for at least six months however to qualify for the deal.
