Chevrolet launch Code130R and Tru 140S
12th January 2012
Chevrolet launched 2 new concept cars at the recent Detroit Motor Show. Failing an attempt approximately 11 years ago, when Chevrolet aimed its Aztek model at the younger audience, this time they have revisited the market with the Code 130R and Tru 140S.
The interior designs of the 2 new Chevrolet cars are told to be completed in consultation with young people to get funky ideas. Mechanically speaking, the Code 130R and Tru 140S contain similar workings to the Chevy Cruze, with a 1.4litre engine. The rear-wheel drive 130R looks more like a compact muscle car yet retains practicality, and comes with CM’s eAssist system designed to enhance fuel economy. Whilst not the first management system to recapture energy from its brakes, optimise engine control at lights, or supplement the engine’s torque at acceleration, this is the first time the eAssist may appear on rear-wheel drive models.
Conversely, the front-wheel drive Chevrolet 140S is a two door, potentially less practical, and more suited as a hatchback coupe rival to the likes of the Volkswagen Scirocco.
Chevrolet have redirected their attention to the younger market with these 2 models, based on a study showing that the younger generation (or “Millennials”), aged under 30, have a spending power of approximately one trillion dollars. Chevrolet won’t confirm the green light on these builds, as yet, but estimates are pricing the models in the low $20,000s with a good fuel economy upwards of 40mpg.
Where the Chevrolet Aztek failed to meet the younger person’s eye back in 2000, with its SUV design, hopefully these 2 newer and updated designs will have more luck.
