Engines
Citroën DS5 is the first Citroën model to feature HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology. The advanced HYbrid4 system delivers 200bhp; four-wheel drive capability; emission-free electric power for the city; and an acceleration boost function for the open road – with total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.
The DS5 also has four driving methods to choose from:
Auto: When this is chosen the engine automatically switches between the diesel engine and the electric motor to minimise emissions.
ZEV: When this is chosen the DS5 becomes a Zero Emission Vehicle by only using the electric engine, when driving below 37.5mph.
4WD: 4 Wheel drive to optimise traction, the front wheels are powered by the engine and the rear wheels by the electric engine.
Sport: To give a quicker response and speed, the DS5 combines the electric engine and the combustion engine.
Safety
The New Citroen DS5 has been voted Topgear Family Car of the Year, due to the wide range of safety features it is equipped with. Automatic Headlights never do you the driver have to worry about when to put the lights on and off as the DS5 features autonomous headlights. The DS5 features both ESP and Intelligent Traction Control, this guarantees optimum stability in the vehicle even in the most delicate driving conditions. Second generation Lane Departure warning system, with this the driver is alerted by vibrations when departing lanes, this ensures you always remain in the correct lane. It also features the eTouch Emergency and Assistance system which was awarded the Euro NCAP advanced award, showing that Citroen is committed to safety.
Styling
The assertive front end instantly identifies Citroën DS5 as a member of the DS family. There is an oversized air intake, a large chrome-finished grille housing the chevrons and a new LED light signature. A distinguishing feature, DS5 boasts chrome-finished ’sabre’ inserts stretching from the top of each headlamp to the windscreen.
The rear design takes Citroen DS5’s on-road presence to yet another level. The car stands firmly on wide tracks, emphasised by two tail pipes built into the rear bumper and highlighted by a rear signature featuring six light guides.
The DS5 has a driver focussed cockpit which creates the driving position of a coupe but with all the practicalities of a larger family car. This includes a wraparound dashboard and wide central console which is positioned in easy reach of both driver and passenger. It also has excellent insulation from both road and wind noise to reduce noise and ensure a user friendly environment.
Debut of the DS5
For its motor show debut in Shanghai, DS5 appears in a one-off livery as the Citroën DS5 White Pearl. The cabin features ebony-coloured full-grain leather, contrasting subtly with silver-flecked overstitching. Interior detailing includes decorative inserts in Makassar ebony and a highly reflective fascia, created by applying several layers of lacquer. Citroën DS5 White Pearl also sports specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
