The best-selling car in Britain has a whole range of models and engines to choose from, not to mention the various equipment and accessories, many of which come as standard. The Ford Focus comes with six models to choose from in the five-door version and five in the estate version, and engines that are highly economical, whether petrol or diesel.
Five-door models
At entry level for the Ford Focus is the Studio, with a choice of petrol or diesel engines, followed by the Edge. Moving further up the scale are the Zetec, the Zetec S, the Titanium and finally the Titanium X at the top of the range
Estate models
The estate versions all but mirror the five-door hatchback, with the exception that the Studio is not part of the range, the entry-level estate being the Edge.
Engines
Ford has supplied a wide range of engines to enhance the cars, with many being especially good for economy and for low carbon emissions. The smallest engine is the 1.0-litre DT EcoBoost that has a power output of 100 PS and comes with a five or six-speed transmission. The six-speed transmission engine has a power output of 125 PS.
All the other petrol engines are 1.6-litre, with an S5 five-speed transmission putting out 105 PS and one with PowerShift having 125 PS. More powerful are the two EcoBoost S5s, both with six-speed transmissions.
Diesel engines start with the 1.6 TDCi, in two versions, the first having power output of 95 PS and the second with 115 PS. Both of these have six-speed transmissions. Transmissions for the 2.0-litre diesels are either six-speed or PowerShift, with a choice of 140 PS or 163 PS outputs.
Colours
Depending on the model chosen, colours can be very varied, ranging from Frozen White at one end of the spectrum to Panther Black Metallic at the other end. In between, there are various shades of red and blue as well as some interesting grey/white blends.
ECOnetic technology
The EcoBoost engine consumes less fuel than other engines with, for example, the 1.0-litre petrol engine producing the same amount of power as a normal 1.6-litre petrol engine. However, it consumes 20 per cent less fuel than similar sized engines and pushes its fuel economy closer to that of a diesel engine.
The Ford Focus also has a PowerShift transmission on some models that provides a six-speed automatic dual-clutch drive train to help with fuel efficiency.
