Ford Focus wins Euro NCAP awards

New Ford Focus wins four Euro NCAP safety awards
We are proud to announce that the new Ford Focus is the first car to win 4 NCAP advanced safety awards.
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe to date.
The following is an extract from autoevolution.com:
Ford Focus Euro NCAP Awards
“The new Focus might be a global product, but we’ll concentrate on the European part of the deal for now, as the vehicle has become the first to receive four Euro NCAP Advanced safety awards after its Driver Alert and Forward Alert tech goodies were recognised this week.
The aforementioned safety systems follow the previously-awarded Active City Stop and Lane Keeping Aid. Driver Alert is a system that aims to prevent driver fatigue, relying on on-board sensors and advanced camera technology to monitor vigilance levels. It constantly displays the level of driver attention and, if necessary, warns the person behind the wheel.
As for Forward Alert, this relies on radar technology to scan the road in front of the car for obstacles. If it detects anything that could lead to an impact, it warns the driver and prepares the braking system.
The driver feels a slight jerk and when he takes his foot off the gas, the vehicle starts braking. When the driver steps on the brake pedal, full braking force is applied.
“Analysis of European accident data shows that rear-end collisions account for about 15 percent of all traffic accidents resulting in injury,” Ford engineer Pradeep Nold said. “Forward Alert is designed firstly to warn the driver, and then to reduce the severity of an impact.”
Our say: this kind of tech may have prevented or reduced the effects of the recent fatal mega-crashes in Germany and the UK.”
If four NCAP advanced safety awards where not enough the Ford Focus during testing received a 5/5 star result with a 92% score to adult occupancy during a crash.
