Ford models boost the fastest rise in new car sales for nine years
8th July 2014
Sales of new cars in the UK are growing at the quickest rate for close to a decade – and the continued popularity of several Ford models is leading the charge.
According to new figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), year-to-date sales have reached 1.29 million cars, which is the highest amount recorded since 2005.
A monthly increase of 6.3 percent in new vehicle sales during June 2014 brought the total for the month to 228,291 cars. That figure is also a 10.6 percent increase compared to the first six months of 2013. The Ford Fiesta and Focus both appeared in the top three.
The Fiesta is the best-selling car of both June and 2014 as a whole, and in the past month alone it has sold more than 11,000 units. As for the Focus, its wider model range and repeated award wins have cemented its attractiveness to an ever greater number of UK drivers.
