More details on the new Ford EcoSport
30th July 2014
Further information has now been revealed on the upcoming Ford EcoSport SUV for the UK. The model first launched in 2003 to establish the SUV segment as a brand new vehicle category in Brazil, and will now arrive in Ford's international markets.
Raked front pillars and a shortened bonnet give the rugged looks of the EcoSport a more individual slant. The five-piece chromed grille is a distinctive feature, and angular headlights alongside signature LED strips complete the SUV's face.
Within the vehicle, flexibility is key – evident in more than 20 different storage compartments and solutions strategically placed throughout the cabin. Depending on the seat configuration, owners of the EcoSport will also enjoy as much as 375 litres of luggage space.
When it comes to advanced technology and safety, the model will incorporate varied functions. These include cruise control, Hill Start Assist, rear parking sensors, Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance and AppLink, and numerous braking, stability and traction assistances.
The EcoSport is one of Ford's first global SUVs, and is also the very first SUV in the world to arrive with a 1.0-litre engine option. It is, as expected, the award-winning EcoBoost petrol engine named as International Engine of the Year three times. The power unit will push the EcoSport to as much as 53.3mpg combined and emit just 125g/km of CO2. A selection of other petrol and diesel engines will be offered.
