After 50 years since it was first made the iconic Ford Mustang is soon to hit Europe and the internet has gone Mustang crazy over the American muscle car. Since order books opened for the new Mustang over 500,000 people flooded the Ford website to configure their Mustang. The website also saw traffic of more than 1.1 million from mid-January this year to mid-February. Ford made the first 500 Mustangs for Europe available to reserve during last year’s Champion League Final in Lisbon. During the 90-minute game an astounding 9,300 people registered online for the Mustang with 500 of those placed in the first 30 seconds.
Ford announced last year that the Mustang would finally be coming to Europe half a century since its conception in America. The so called pony car was first introduced in the USA in 1964 and instantly became a hit thanks to its tough looks and powerful engine. The Mustang has a massive fan base around the world; it has over 8 million likes on facebook making it the most liked car ever on the popular social network site.
The Ford Mustang will hit UK showrooms this autumn and will be available in a range of options. The Mustang is renowned for delivering a world class driving performance and the European version will certainly live up to its name. Options on the new Mustang include 10 exterior colours, six transmissions, a V8 engine or Fords dynamic EcoBoost engine. So far the EcoBoost model with six-speed manual transmission has proved most popular for car configurators on the Ford website with half configuring their car the low emission engine. In the UK the powerful 5.0-litre V8 engine was most popular with 54% configuring their car with this engine.
Speaking of the Mustangs contiuned popluarity both in Europe and the USA Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe said: “The rush to configure Mustang online represents 50 years of pent up demand across Europe “For some people, the new Mustang is the car they have waited for their whole lives.”
After 50 long years of watching the Mustang in numerous TV shows, advertisment and films its great to finally see it in the flesh and with right hand drive.
