The Honda Civic is officially one of the most stunning and futuristic car designs available today. A “head turner” to the extreme with its stunning aerodynamic lines and extended strip of lights across both the front and rear of the car, the Civic cuts a sporting figure and stands out from any crowd. The Honda Civic is surprisingly the smallest car in the family hatchback range, though it does benefit from a longer wheelbase, a technological advancement that gives the car added poise, balance and road-holding ability. The arrowhead design of the Civic is not the only feature that is designed to reduce air resistance: the wing mirrors, rear spoiler and sharply-curved bonnet all reduce resistance and wind noise, and maintain the car’s stability and down force when cornering.
The interior of the car continues with the same ergonomic brilliance, the centre console being the focal point of attention with a dashboard that curves around the driver. The seats are superbly constructed to support and protect the occupants throughout their journey, and they are also incorporated into the Honda “magic seat” technology that allows seats to be folded in numerous configurations to maximise free space.
The Honda Civic has, as standard features, six airbags and front head restraints that protect the occupant from whiplash in the event of a collision. The Civic also comes with stability control to ensure the car is always stable around corners and on uneven surfaces. The Honda Civic hosts some remarkable pedestrian safety features, such as energy-absorbant wing panels and windscreen wipers that release in an impact situation so they do not become a further hazard. The Honda Civic holds the coveted five-star Euro NCAP rating.
In addition to the technology invested to develop engines that are superbly economical, whether in petrol or diesel form, Honda has enhanced fuel efficiency with a number of technological advancements outside of the engine compartment that has contributed greatly to the car’s fuel returns. The rear wing of the Civic is mounted high to ensure minimal wind drag, and, on the 2.2 i-DTEC model, the front grille automatically opens and closes – depending on your speed – to reduce wind resistance. With enhanced features such as automatic engine shutdown while the car is idle in traffic queues, owners will find that the fuel bills for the Civic will always be minimal.
