New Kia Rio

The All new Kia Rio is a strongly built 5-door hatchback,  designed with light steering making it an effortless driving experience.  With great fuel economy and safety features including anti-lock braking system (ABS). All models come with the fantastic Kia seven year warranty as standard.

Engines

The engine options available for the Kia Rio are all inline-four cylinder. For the first generation of the vehicle, 1.3 litre, 1.5 litre and 1.6 litre options are offered.

The engine options available for the second generation of Kia Rio include 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre versions of the inline-four. The premium option for the second generation is a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine, which offers a higher power output than its petrol counterparts.

For the third generation of the Kia Rio, the engine options available are 1.25 litre, 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre versions of the petrol inline-four. There is also a pair of diesel engine options for the third generation. Both 1.1 litre and 1.4 litre versions of the inline-three diesel are offered.

In terms of transmissions, the Kia Rio is available in four-speed automatic, five-speed manual and five-speed automatic versions. Starting with the third generation, six-speed manual and automatic versions have also been offered.

Safety

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, the Kia Rio was given the second highest mark for passenger safety.

Standard safety features of the Kia Rio include electronic stability programme (ESP), which helps to pinpoint and reduce loss of traction. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is also standard with this vehicle.

In order to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting on a hill, hill assist control has also become a standard safety feature for the Kia Rio. Isofix anchors are fitted for child passenger seats.

Style

Every generation of the Kia Rio is available in both four-door saloon and five-door hatchback styles. Starting with the third generation, a three-door hatchback design was also made available.

As with many of this company’s offerings, the Kia Rio is a vehicle most suited to urban driving.  The hatchback version, in particular, is small and manoeuvrable, which makes it suited to the demands of city driving.

Even though the Kia Rio may have been primarily designed with urban driving in mind, the seats remain comfortable over the course of a long drive. In fact, the interior of the Kia Rio is generally more oriented toward comfort than looks. The electronics options for the interior include USB port and Bluetooth.

Performance

The Kia Rio is a subcompact with front-wheel drive, which are characteristics common to all three generations of the vehicle. Starting with the second generation, power steering has been an option.

The Kia Rio’s third generation has EcoDynamics models, which are more fuel-efficient and have features geared toward reducing harmful emissions.
