New Kia Ray EV released in Korea
4th January 2012
The new Kia Ray EV is the first electric car to be introduced to the Korean car market.
The new Kia car is very similar to the 1.0 Litre Kia Ray CUV (which has a petrol powered engine)In fact the Ray EV shares almost all of the same dimensions and features as the CUV, and will be assembled on the same production line as other Kia petrol engine models. This is the first time any manufacturer has assembled Electric and Petrol powered cars on the same production line.
The Kia Ray EV will be front-wheel drive with a range up to 86 miles (139km) on its electric battery charge. The battery is designed to have a 10 year life span and is located under the rear seat. This new Kia car offers two different charge types of slow and fast. The slow option is designed for home charging through a 220v power supply and takes around 6 hours . Fast recharging only takes around 25 minutes and can be done at one of the 500 recharge stations that are currently located across Korea (the government are planning to increase the amount of recharge stations to 3,100 by the end of this year). The top speed for the Kia Ray EV is 81mph.
It is still not clear whether or not the new Kia Ray EV will be introducted in to the UK market, but Lookers Kia will be sure to keep you updated with any news.
