Land Rover Assists British Red Cross
5th January 2012
Land Rover have donated four extra cycle response units to the Red Cross this week.
The donation comes as part of Land Rovers three year global initiative which they launched in August 2010 for ‘Reaching Vulnerable People Around the World’ , aimed to help the Red Cross to respond to emergencies by providing them with vehicles and other equipment.
All in all Land Rover UK have now donated 30 CRUs to the Red Cross as well as 30 new cars including a range of Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Freelander models.
The Bikes which were developed with Land Rover's bicycle manufacturer, 2x2, are designed to work in conjunction with Land Rover vehicles as a mobile medical unit. Every CRU comes equipped with a first aid kit, defibrillator, and resuscitation devices which enable Red Cross first aiders to react to incidents as quickly as possible, particularly in crowded city areas where it might be more difficult for cars reach people in need of first aid assistance.
The Red Cross have already used CRUs at UK events including the Great North Run and the Essex Country Show.
As well as donating vehicles, Land Rover has made other contributions to the Red Cross. For example in 2011 Land Rover provided 27 driver training places for Red Cross emergency responders at the Land Rover experience centre, to help them prepare for off-road driving through severe weather conditions. They also distributed e-tuturoris and other driving materials to aid the UK Red cross staff. In 2010 Land Rover donated 30 defibrillators to be fitted in the vehicles which had been provided previously.
