Mercedes-AMG have recently released details regarding a number of new performance vehicles, all wearing the ‘43’ title. So what does this mean?
In the case of the SLC and GLC, the AMG 43 will be the pinnacle of the range, both in speed and style. Where-as the C43 and E43 will act to bridge the gap between the standard Mercedes-Benz range and the fire-breathing, V8 powered AMG 63’s.
All models wearing the AMG 43 badge will feature a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, producing over 360 horsepower, capable of propelling even the SUV-class GLC to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
Efficiency is firmly at the heart of the AMG 43 range, with power being delivered through Mercedes-Benz' state-of-the-art 9-speed automatic transmission. This contributes to outstanding levels of economy, levels not usually associated with vehicles of such performance.
Outside, the appearance is slightly more restrained than the AMG 63’s we are used to seeing but is still clearly defined. Deeper front and rear bumpers, larger wheels and a distinctive grille help distinguish this as an AMG product. Inside, regular AMG service is resumed with dashings of red accompanying body-hugging sport seats.
