There’s a very good reason the New Ford Focus is one of the most popular cars on UK roads; Ford has quite simply got it spot on.
The Focus delivers on all key points, it’s economical to run, effortlessly stylish, impressively capacious and comes with a very competitive price tag, undercutting most of its competitors in the mid range market.
The experience
Everything about the Focus just works. The drive is supple and responsive without being too fluffy when you put your foot down, the steering is incisive and intuitive, making it a good car for city driving. In fact, whatever kind of motoring you are planning on doing, urban, cross-country or motorway, the Focus is a safe bet in our books. On the inside it’s very wide and roomy with lots of passenger space and a vast 385 litre boot. Families, young people and businesses will find the Focus rises to any challenges they throw at it.
The performance
Even when they’re working hard, the Focus engines are smooth, quiet and reasonable to run. The choice of petrols starts with a 1.4 litre Duratec that gives 36.7 to the gallon and produces 180g/km of C02, and ends with a turbocharged 2.0 litre, capable of 35.3mpg and 189g/km of carbon. The diesels do give themselves away with a slight murmur at speed, but they’re still among the best in their class, with a 2.0 litre and 1.6 litre Duratorq on offer. The 1.6 squeezes an impressive 50mpg on a combined cycle.
The technology
ESP and EBA are included on all trims as standard, along with a radio CD with six speakers. Spend more and the list of options increases to include a Sony 8 speaker MP3 compatible stereo, touch screen navigation and Ford key free entry system.
