Honda has established a reputation as one of the industry leaders in innovation, but the star of the range, finding favour with families and sports enthusiasts alike, is the fantastic New Honda Civic.
A triumph of design, with its eye-catching triangular styling, the New Honda Civic looks like a car from the space age. However, its engineering and build are reassuringly realistic and it comes with a very down to earth pricing structure.
The experience
As you would expect with such a contemporary exterior, the cabin is equally futuristic with striking three dimensional instruments and switchgear. The sloping roofline looks fantastic. The immense 485 litre boot is a trade off though, providing almost 100 litres more than any of its competitors. Its great to drive on urban roads and the steering is quick off the mark. The Civic gets into its stride once you get it on the motorway.
The performance
The 1.4 litre petrol engine offers decent returns, but its modest performance isn’t the true match for a car a refined as the Civic. Better opt for the 1.8 litre, with plenty of pulling power and better fuel efficiency. The lightweight 2.2 litre turbo diesel has plenty of muscle power, sportiness and strength, plus it’s exceptionally quiet, even at speed. It’s also one of the cleanest engines available from Honda, producing around 140g/km of C02.
The technology
There’s climate and stability control, six airbags and electric windows available as standard on the 5 door models. Xenon headlights, glass roofs, automatic headlamps and wipers, sat nav and parking sensors put in an appearance further up the trim scale. 3 door Civics are available in either S or S GT trims, boasting suppler suspension and enhanced styling.
Models within this range: ACCORD, CIVIC, CR-V, CR-Z, INSIGHT, JAZZ.
