Latest addition to the lineup is the Vauxhall Insignia; brilliantly spacious and good looking with plenty of driving innovation thrown in.
An ideal motorway cruiser and company car, the Vauxhall Insignia is also set to cause a stir with private buyers thanks to its sleek good looks and optional four wheel drive system.
The experience
The Insignia is available as a two wheel drive or as an optional 4x4, which redistributes torque between all four wheels for enhanced traction and handling. What's more, you can control the damping via a 'flexi ride' system with a choice of relaxed or firmer suspension setups. Offered in five door hatch, four door saloon, and estate guises, the Vauxhall Insignia is dynamic and appealing whichever model you go for. The cabin is up-market and sets new levels for ergonomics, comfort and safety and the seats are a masterclass in driving luxury.
The performance
The petrol range opens with a 1.8 litre 140PS ECOTEC unit which produces a very respectable 36.2mpg, followed by a 2.0 litre 220PS and a range topping 2.8 litre V6 260PS variant. Diesel power is served up in the economical 2.0 litre choices, a 130 or 160PS version. Both units produce a brilliant 48.7mpg on the combined cycle; go for the greener ecoFLEX 160PS engine for reduced carbon emissions and impressive fuel consumption.
The technology
Most buyers will plump for the Exclusiv model which comes with a good level of driving equipment that covers ESP stability control and ABS brakes, automatic headlamps, electrically adjusting driver's seat, air conditioning and side and curtain airbags.
Models within this range: AGILA, ANTARA, ASTRA, CORSA, INSIGNIA, MERIVA, VXR8, ZAFIRA.
