The Volkswagen Passat CC fuses the luxurious ride comfort of a saloon with the style hits of a sports coupe; a fierce mix that makes for a truly executive class business car.
Four seater coupes don't come in much better shape than the Passat CC, only Volkswagen could conceive of a car that provides driving excitement, practical features and slick style in equal measures.
The experience
The excitement comes courtesy of the lowered and well damped suspension that lends itself to a sportier, exhilarating drive. There are plenty of enhanced styling details that stop the Passat CC feeling like a souped up version of the Passat, and make it a distinctive car in its own right. One thing it does have in common is the high-end Volkswagen comfort factor; plus it's easy to find your prime driving position thanks to the smart operating electronically adjusting sports seats. With its aerodynamic, streamlined curves and lowered coupe roof, the Passat CC is as beautiful to look at as it is to take up and down the motorway.
The performance
The engine line up opens with a 1.8 litre 160PS petrol followed by a 2.0 litre 200PS unit. Both average around the 36mpg mark, a very respectable economy for a car of this class. The range topping petrol is a 3.6 litre 300PS powerplant that completes the 0 - 62mph sprint in just 5.5 seconds. The oil burning option is a pair of 2.0 litre units with 140 or 170PS. Both perform brilliantly at the pumps with 50mpg combined and an impressively low carbon output of just 146g/km.
The technology
The standard Passat CC model is superbly kitted out with all the finishing touches you want from a sports coupe. Sports suspension, smart dual zone climate control and a top-notch six disc CD player all make the standard features list. If you fancy chunkier alloys, tinted windows, electronic shock absorber and a plush aluminium interior you need only step up one trim level to the GT.
