Lookers Staff Ride Across Britain for Cancer Research UK

On the 5th September two senior members of Lookers Group began a challenge that would see them cycle the famous route from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Matthew Brown and Neil Davis took to the tough British roads to raise money for Lookers chosen charity Cancer Research UK and Kesho UK. Ride Across Britain is an annual event which is organised by Deloitte.

The bike ride took place over the space of 9 days with numerous stops along the way. The 966 mile journey saw the men take in some of the most beautiful sights that the British countryside has to offer, including the highlands, coastal roads and valleys.

Matthew who is Lookers Group Financial Controller is no stranger to a challenge, only this year he and his colleagues took part in a cycle ride from London to Paris in aid of the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund.

Matthew is hoping to raise £1 for every mile cycled in memory of his late father who tragically lost his life to pancreatic cancer. Matthew said of the challenge:

By signing up for this endurance cycle ride, I am not trying to prove anything to myself or break any records, I simply want to raise as much money as possible for the great work of Cancer Research UK, in memory of my Dad who passed away five years ago from pancreatic cancer, a condition for which there is still no cure.”

Neil who is the Managing Director of Lookers Parts Division and is on the Lookers Board of Directors, has also had his fair share of practise having previously taken part in the Sport Relief Leaderboard Challenge.

Neil is raising money for Kesho UK a charity that FPS have supported for a number of years, which provides access to education for disadvantaged children on the East Coast of Kenya. Before he took off Neil said of the challenge:

While a week seems loads of time, this is a gruelling challenge covering over 100 miles a day. Half the battle will be getting to the finish line but we are excited to be on the road. I’m always keen to take on a challenge to raise vital funds for charities that are helping to save thousands of lives every year.”

A massive well done to Matthew and Neil who completed their challenge having arrived at the finish line in John O'Groats yesterday.
