Renault fans in the UK awaiting more news on the new Renaultsport Mégane 275 Trophy can now satisfy their interest, as motoring publication Autocar has taken a first drive in the model.
The hot hatch – the manufacturer's flagship high-performance car - has been upgraded to keep it at the head of a very competitive segment. The enhancements include an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, stylish new front bumper insert, and the 'Cup pack' with anti-roll bars.
Cabin equipment now includes a responsive and intelligent infotainment system, with data and controls via the Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel. Sat nav and dual-zone climate control are added to the specification, and the boot volume has been noticeably increased.
Within the Mégane 275 Trophy, Renault's 2.0-litre turbo engine from the existing Mégane range has been carefully engineered for higher power. It now delivers 271bhp – a 10bhp increase – with stronger torque. It takes just six seconds to reach 60mph from a standstill. New springs, dampers and a limited-slip differential from the Cup pack build on the hot hatch's road performance.
Autocar's review team praises the Trophy for “purity of focus, outright pace and sheer engagement". The upgrades to the model mean that “the resulting experience when driven at speed is utterly intoxicating".
