Versions
The Skoda Octavia is renowned as a car that provides easy driving and that is economical to run. There are two hatchback versions, the Octavia hatch and the turbo-powered vRS hatch. There are also two estate versions including the VRS estate. Completing the range is the Octavia Scout.
There are also eco-friendly versions of the Octavia that ensure economical use of fuel and low CO2 emissions. The Fabia GreenLine II offers a combined fuel economy of 83.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 89g per km. Engines and performance
There are seven types of engines available for the Skoda Octavia, five of which are petrol and two diesels. Outputs are from 80PS to the most powerful at 200PS.
The entry-level petrol engine for the Octavia is the 1.2 TSI PS that can return a combined (urban and non-urban) mpg of 49.6
The 1.4 TSI 122PS delivers more power through turbo charging and direct fuel injection. This makes for an extremely fuel efficient and clean powerplant able to achieve 47.9mpg combined. In addition, CO2 emissions are only 147g per km.
Also combining turbo charging with direct fuel injection is the 1.8 TSI 160PS.This mid-range engine is easy on fuel with 42.8mpg for combined driving, while emissions are kept to 158g per kg for the six-speed manual transmission and 155g for the seven-speed DSG automatic.
When fitted within the Octavia vRS range the 2.0 T FSI 200 PS oozes power. In fact, Skoda claims it is the most powerful engine the motor manufacturer has ever produced.
Pride of place among the Octavia engines is afforded to the 2.0 T vRS engines that are available for the hatchbacks and estates. The 200PS and 170PS versions are also provided with optional six-speed DSG gearboxes.
The entry level Octavia diesel engine is the 1.6 TDI CR. A five-speed gearbox is standard, but also available is a DSG gearbox that comes as a six or seven-speed
For real power, there is the 2.0 TDI CR. These engines are turbo-charged. The vehicle can go from zero to 60mph in just 9.5 seconds.
