ŠKODA confirms several new vehicles are in the pipeline
23rd July 2014
Inside sources at ŠKODA have verified rumours of the manufacturer’s intention to launch a number of new models. Such a move would be an aggressive push to reach the previously-set goal of selling 1.5 million vehicles annually by 2018.
It’s anticipated that the all-new Fabia launching in October 2014 will be the first vehicle of many to debut in the next two or three years. The estate version will follow three months after the hatch. New versions of the Superb as both a hatchback and estate are also pencilled in for 2015, with a date yet to be confirmed. The Superb in particular will likely demonstrate stylistic influences from the Vision C concept.
The all-new range will ultimately be led by a seven-seat SUV, which is tantalisingly close to receiving the ‘green light’ from ŠKODA senior management. It’s strongly rumoured to hold high off-road capability, arrive with both petrol and diesel engine options and mimic the current Yeti with front-wheel and four-wheel drive versions.
Given that the vehicle is already expected for release in 2016, a U-turn on the decision to develop the people carrier seems unlikely to brand fans.
