Performance and Handling
Using the standard 1.4-litre BlueMotion petrol engine, the SUV zooms from 0-60 in less than nine seconds and has the potential to reach 129mph. It transforms smoothly into a rugged and powerful off-road vehicle at the press of a single button, modifying the engine's performance to suit the more challenging terrain. As you'd expect from such a robust Volkswagen, the Tiguan can also carry and tow a substantial amount of weight – even with the base engine, it'll transport up to 100kg on both the roof and the towbar.
Engine Specs & Fuel Economy
Drivers can pick out either a petrol or diesel engine for their new Tiguan, and each one partners with a manual six-speed gearbox. Many of the engines are built with Volkswagen's economical and forward-thinking technology, preventing wasted fuel whilst idling in traffic and returning braking energy back to the system. From the 64-litre tank, diesel versions of the Tiguan can offer up to 53.3 MPG combined – a figure that's almost unheard of for an SUV.
Exterior Features
Crumple zones and a galvanised shell are built into the confident shape of the Tiguan, guarding the cabin from impact energy if there's an accident on your travels. The wider and lower appearance of the SUV gives it a far more dominant road presence that really does turn heads. Plenty of the model's other design features are also just as practical, from the reshaped front fog lights through to the dynamic tail-light clusters.
Interior Features
The family-friendly Tiguan is equipped with ISOFIX child seat attachments and adjustable seatbelts as standard, along with front and side driver and passenger airbags with full-size curtain bags, tons of handy storage spaces and split folding rear seats. Volkswagen has paid close attention to detail in building and upholstering the cabin, and different fabrics and colour schemes are offered at each trim level with matching metallic accents.
