The all New Volkswagen up! has finally arrived. This is an entirely new car from Volkswagen. It offers maximum space on a minimal footprint (3.54 x 1.64 m), making it ideal for driving in the world's major towns. There are three different specifications to suit budgets.
The Volkswagen take up! is the entry-level car, move up! the comfort-oriented specification and the high up! the top version. There will also be two additional models based on the high up!: up! black and up! white.
Owners of the Volkswagen UP have a choice of two different engines; although both are 1.0 litre petrol engines, one has 59bhp and the other features 74bhp. The latter is ideal for those who need to do more motorway driving as it gives a little more power, but both vehicles are ideal for getting around town.
The Volkswagen UP has great agility and light steering, as well as good fuel efficiency, particularly on the 74bhp version. The low levels of emissions ensure that drivers will be paying a minimum of road tax.
Body-coloured bumpers and wing mirrors are fitted as standard, although the mirrors can be customised to chrome if required. The wheels fitted are steel, and alloys wheels are available as an option. A panoramic sunroof is also an option on some of the models but is fitted at an extra charge.
The dashboard in the Volkswagen UP is clear, all the controls are easily reached, and all dials are clearly visible. Buyers can also opt for a model that has a satellite navigation infotainment system included on the top of the dashboard.
The driver is able to adjust their seat, and all seats have been designed for maximum comfort. The amount of space that is provided in the vehicle is great for a small car, and passengers will find that there is plenty of headroom in the Volkswagen UP. The car is also equipped with a fairly decent luggage space, and more space can be provided by folding down the rear seats. The car is fitted with power steering and a CD player. There are adjustable headrests in the rear of the vehicle and some models are fitted with a warning system to tell the driver if the headlights have been left on.
The Volkswagen UP has been fitted with all the standard safety and security features that a driver would expect; these include four airbags at the front and sides, and ABS for additional safety. In the crash tests carried out by NCAP, the Volkswagen UP has achieved the maximum rating. The car is fitted with an electronic stability programme that helps to keep control of the vehicle in adverse conditions, and it also has parking sensors at the rear of the car if required. All UP vehicles are fitted with a toolkit, and there are ISOFIX connections in the rear of the vehicle for child seats. There is a seatbelt warning system in some of the vehicles.
