The Volkswagen Passat - European Car of the Year 2015

The 2015 Geneva Motor Show officially kicked off yesterday with the announcement that the new Volkswagen Passat had won 'European Car of the Year'. The Passat won the top award for being one of the most successful and best-selling vehicles in its class. The European Car of the Year award is one of the oldest and well known awards in Europe honouring the best new car releases since 1964. The jury is made up of 58 motoring journalists from across Europe including Top Gear's Paul Horrell. Each judge has to nominate seven new cars they think are deserving of the prestigious award, each model was then awarded points based on economy, comfort, safety, design, and driving characteristics. The Passat triumphed with an impressive 340 points well ahead of the second place car the Citroen C4 Cactus.

Volkswagen CEO Prof. Martin Winterkorn said of the Passat's win: In the new Passat, we have again succeeded in developing a car that sets the standards for its class in terms of technology and quality. This honour is a tremendous confirmation for the work of our engineers, designers and the entire team. The new Passat shows that the Volkswagen brand has the right answers to the challenges of our time."

The New Passat is now in its eight successful generation, and is regarded as one of the most innovative cars in its class. As well as being great value for money the Passat has a modern design, excellent engineering and a host of new technologies such as Active Info Display and Front Assist with City Emergency Braking. The Passat is now the third model from Volkswagen to win the European Car of the Year award, in 2010 the Volkswagen Polo took home the prize, and in 2013 the Volkswagen Golf won.

Picking up the award on the night was Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for the Development Division who said: “We are delighted by the honour of “Car of the Year 2015”. This accolade has a very special significance for us because it is awarded by independent international trade journalists. In addition, the honour is known to have a high standing for our customers.”

The award winning Volkswagen Passat is available at Lookers at our various showrooms across the country. For more information or to arrange a test drive of the Passat, contacta member of the Volkswagen Lookers team today.
