New Volkswagen up! wins What Car? Car of the Year 2012

The Volkswagen up! has been named Car of the Year 2012 and Best City Car by What Car? and it’s not even on the UK roads until March. This is the sixth time Volkswagen has won Car of the Year making it the most successful car manufacturer at the What Car? Awards since 1978.
Overall Volkswagen was successful in obtaining a presence at the awards which were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The Volkswagen Golf took the award for Small Family car for the sixth consecutive year and Volkswagen also won the Safety Award.
The new Volkswagen up! Is the perfect city car as it seats four adults comfortably and is affordable whilst offering quality and refinement. The up! is also designed to be modern and efficient with industry leading safety features and advanced infotainment system.
Director of Volkswagen UK, Chris Craft stated: “Our retailers are excited about the up! we’re excited about the up! and judging by the reaction of the press and public, customers are also very excited.”
The Safety Award was given due to Volkswagen’s advanced Emergency Braking system on the up! the idea of ‘big car’ technology impressed the judges. The technology uses sensors to detect when the car is about to hit something and automatically applies the brakes, this comes at an additional cost of £225.
