Audi and Volkswagen join the Go Ultra Low campaign

German manufacturers Volkswagen and Audi have joined forces with five other car manufacturers to increase awareness of the Go Ultra Low campaign. The campaign is aiming to increase awareness of the benefits of ultra-low emission vehicles in the UK.

The campaign now has seven members who are committed to working with the Government in promoting the benefits of ULEV's (ultra-low emission vehicles). Along with Audi and Volkswagen, other manufacturers that have already joined the campaign include Mitsubishi, BMW, Renault, Toyota, and Nissan

All of the seven manufacturers have their own ULEV's including the best-selling electric vehicle to date the Nissan Leaf. Among them they have a total of 15 ULEV's, ranging from SUV's to Coupe's to family cars and sports cars.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders ULEV registrations grew by more than 300% last year. 14,518 cars were registered in 2014 showing that drivers are looking for cheaper and more efficient vehicles.

Pure electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf are able to travel up to 100 miles on a single charge, while other plug in ULEV's such as the Volkswagen Golf GTE boast ranges of around 70 miles. These cars are giving customers the option of having a low cost, efficient car that benefits from no road tax and Government grants of up to £5000.

Speaking of the figures Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said: The public are increasingly seeing the benefits of ultra-low emission vehicles, which have low running costs and are easily chargeable at home or on the street. We now have seven manufacturers campaigning to show the wide range of styles and prices available so even more people will see what's on offer, and the significant government help available."

The Go Ultra Low campaign was introduced last year by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and aims to encourage British motorists to adopt a ULEV vehicle. The campaign is the first of its kind and brings together the Department for Transport, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, SMMT and the consortium of seven car manufacturers.

Speaking of the campaign Hetal Shah, Spokesperson for Go Ultra Low, said: "More UK car-buyers are realising the advantages of owning an ultra-low emission vehicle, and the aim of the newly-expanded Go Ultra Low consortium is to share the multiple benefits with a wider audience.

"We've discovered that once people learn more about the benefits of these cars and vans, they're keen to take action – and once they've tried them, they're hooked."
