A former Scottish Women’s Premier League player of the year, Kerry Montgomery, has been rewarded for her standout achievements with a local sponsorship from Lookers Volkswagen Van Centre in Baillieston.
The initial recognition of Kerry’s talents by Lookers was a result of a relationship between John McKinstry, General Manager at the Lookers Van Centre, and his connections to football team Motherwell FC, where she is captain.
The popularity of womens football is growing rapidly and when the 29-year old skilled mid-fielder joined the club this year she saw it as an opportunity to “Play a part in the club’s ambitions to be the very best it can be within the woman’s game.”
Impressed by Kerry, who has won eight caps for her country and plays at an International level with Northern Ireland, John and the Van Centre team wanted to do what they could to help her achieve her goals with the club.
John commented: “We’re extremely proud to be associated with the Motherwell Ladies team and along with Kerry’s supporters, many within our local community, we are looking forward to backing Motherwell this coming season.
“Good luck to Kerry and the team from all of us at the Van Centre. C’mon the ‘well!”
The sponsorship will run for the season, running from February to November, and Lookers will have a presence in local areas such as Motherwell, Hamilton, Uddingston and Bellshill.
Surplus to sponsorships like these, Lookers will be launching a bundle of internal networks, such as its Female Apprentice Network, to promote the motor industry as an attractive workplace for women and men and a welcoming retailer for both female and male customers.
John said: “At Lookers, we want to be known as a business that promotes equality in everything we do, whether it’s the way we interact with our customers or the career opportunities we have available at every level. This is also reflected in the work we do within the community and the individuals and organisations we support.”
Kerry said: “I’m over the moon to be provided this support by Lookers, which will allow me to continue my development in the game and help take my career to the next level. Womens football is really taking off now and it’s great that companies like Lookers are getting involved.”
