The end of June 2014 saw the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed take place, and Ford's new Focus ST made its first public debut at the event.
Ford has stated that the ST will showcase multiple improvements over previous models, such as better fuel economy, an updated chassis, firmer handling and the option of a diesel engine.
The petrol engine choice is an updated version of the current model's turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. It produces 247bhp, and has been given a six percent improvement to its fuel economy for a resultant 41.5mpg. Carbon emissions have also been improved, with the vehicle now emitting only 158g/km. The diesel engine option is a 2.0-litre TDCi which delivers 182bhp and accomplishes 0-60mph in approximately eight seconds. It has a top speed of 134mph, and the potent engine is partnered by a six-speed manual gearbox.
The interior has also seen a number of improvements. Recaro sports seats and a leather-covered steering wheel have been added, as well as three additional gauges to display oil pressure, oil temperature and turbo boost. Technological improvements include Ford's newest SYNC 2 infotainment system, which has voice control capability and is controlled from an 8.1-inch touchscreen.
