Yesterday a team of 8 from Mercedes-Benz of Brighton and Mercedes-Benz of Gatwick travelled to Arundel and spent the day volunteering at a very worthwhile charity, Chestnut Tree House.
“Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire and cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions. It currently costs well over £3.5m each year to provide all the care services provided by Chestnut Tree House. Families are never charged for their care and less than 7p in every pound is funded by the government, so we rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex. At Chestnut Tree House our goal is to provide the best quality of life for children, young people and their families, and to offer a total package of practical, social and spiritual support throughout each child’s life, however short it may be.”
This is the second volunteer day the team at Lookers Mercedes-Benz and smart have taken part in and it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience that we would recommend to other local businesses.
The team spent the day clearing the car park of weeds, nettles and moss, then laid mulch on the area before clearing the houses vegetable patch ready for some spring seed planting and tidied the memorial garden beds as well. Thankfully it was a beautifully sunny day and everyone enjoyed spending the day outside.
At the end of a hard day’s work the house chef had baked the team an incredible coffee cake which went down very very well!
Local businesses who take part in volunteer days at Chestnut Tree House save the charity thousands of pounds each year and without those companies’ support the maintenance around the house would not be as easy.
