The Automotive Manufacturing League table for 2015 is out and Jaguar Land Rover has come out on top as the largest automotive manufacturer in Britain.
The news comes after the announcement from the SMMT that UK car manufacturing has had its best year in a decade producing 1,587,677 vehicles in 2015.
Producing more than 500,000 cars and commercial vehicles in 2015 at its three vehicle manufacturing plants in the UK, the leading company broke its production milestone last year.
Since 2009, under TATA ownership, the company has seen a dramatic increase in its total annual production by almost 70% making Jaguar Land Rover the fastest growing UK automotive manufacturer.
The success of 2015 could be attributed by the 11 new and refreshed cars launched to the market by Jaguar and Land Rover, including the impressive Jaguar XE and XF and the Land Rover Discover Sport.
Other attributing factors to Jaguar Land Rover’s achievements come from the three manufacturing plants in Solihull, Birmingham and Liverpool which have each welcomed considerable investment to drive up capacity, capability and quality. Together with the £1bn state-of-the-art Engine Manufacturing Centre, these facilities have created more than 10,000 manufacturing jobs in the last five years, with the overall UK workforce more than doubling to 35,000.
Jaguar Land Rover's Executive Director of Manufacturing, Wolfgang Stadler said “Britain is the beating heart of our business, so becoming the country’s largest vehicle manufacturer is a remarkable achievement, demonstrating our steadfast commitment to the UK manufacturing sector.
“2015 was a challenging year for the industry against a backdrop of socio economic instability, but it is a testament to our strong product range and dedicated team of employees that Jaguar Land Rover has delivered year on year growth, with more exciting products to come.”
Jaguar Land Rover’s success last year was not only identified in the UK but also further afield, across the pond you could say. In the US, Land Rover was named the fastest growing car brand in the country. With more than 80% of Jaguar Land Rover’s UK based production exported to over 160 markets, the company’s achievements are on a global scale.
2016 is set to be just as, if not more, exciting a year as we look forward to the launches of the Jaguar F-PACE and Range Rover Evoque Convertible to hit the global car market.
