Lookers help Leeds public breathe easy for Clean Air Day 2018

Lookers Nissan helped visitors to Leeds City Centre go green yesterday by showcasing their leading electric vehicles as part of Clean Air Day.

The event, which was held at Briggate in the city centre and organised by Leeds City Council with support by Radio Aire, was part of a national network of events for Clean Air Day and promoted environmentally friendly ways of reducing pollution.

Leeds residents were encouraged to wear green and choose greener ways to travel for the day, to raise awareness of the council’s ongoing #5MileLeeds campaign. The campaign asks the public to do their bit to improve air pollution by driving five fewer miles every week in a polluting vehicle.

Lookers Nissan also provided the perfect solution to those wanting to continue their car commute without harming the environmentby displaying the fully electric Nissan Leaf and the Nissan ENV200 electric van, which they showcased the previous day to a group of students from Woodkirk Academy in Wakefield.

The winner of best electric car 2018 at the What Car? awards, the Nissan Leaf is ideal for city centre driving and even longer journeys, with an impressive range of up to 168 miles and the innovative e-pedal function, while the fully electric Nissan ENV200 van is the perfect solution for tradespeople needing to access city centre areas. Its 188 mile range, loading capacity of up to 4.3M3 and a quick charge capability makes it a reliable choice too.

Visitors were also given the opportunity to discuss ways of reducing their environmental impact with the Clean Air Leeds team as well as given the chance to win a brand new Nissan Leaf for the weekend so that they could try first-hand the positive impact of driving electric.

Martin Watson, General Manager at Nissan Leeds, said: “Clean Air Day is an opportunity for us all to examine how we can better reduce our impact on the environment and a great way to do that is through driving an electric vehicle. We’re pleased to showcase our excellent electric offerings for both personal and commercial use. This event and Clean Air Day events held around the country, are a great way of driving the environmental conversation forward, with electric vehicles leading the way.”

The Leeds event also offered plenty of fun activities for children, while an on-site artist encouraged visitors to bring their visions of a clean air city to life through art.

Claire McAuley, Account Manager at Radio Aire said: “The council have a commitment to reduce pollution in the city to improve health, working conditions and the environment. We hope that this event has encouraged people across the city to make small changes which will contribute to a greater change in pollution levels. Together we can make a difference.”
