SEAT to double its hot hatchback sales

11th June 2014

SEAT UK is confident that the sales of its hot hatchbacks will double during the course of 2014. Current sales contribute towards a three percent share of the individual vehicle families, but initial orders of SEAT's Leon Cupra indicate a rise to six percent. Director of SEAT UK, Neil Williamson, has aims of raising this sales mix up to ten percent.

Williamson also states that SEAT UK has achieved a 22 percent increase in car sales, where the industry average has been 11 percent. SEAT sold 45,300 cars across 2013, representing a record in car sales for the brand. Figures for 2014 already show that an improvement on last year's sales is likely.

There are five models of the Leon Cupra available, and they are based on SEAT's three-door SC and five-door hatchback vehicle bodies. The Leon Cupra has been a success for the company, including setting record times at Germany's Nürburgring. SEAT achieved lap times of less than eight minutes with a front-wheel-drive vehicle powered by 277bhp. Powered by the 2.0-litre turbo engine, the Leon Cupra is one of SEAT's most powerful Cupra models produced to date.
