The new ŠKODA Fabia won two awards the first being the most prestigious 'Overall Car of the Year Award', along with being named 'Best Small Car'. The ŠKODA Octavia was also honoured on the night winning the 'Best Family Car' award.
The awards ceremony which took place at Grosvenor House Hotel in London is an annual event which is closely followed by manufacturers and the buying public alike. Last week What Car revealed that winning one of their prestigious awards could see interest in the model increase by a whopping 300%. Last years 'Overall Car of the Year Winner' the Nissan Qashqai saw a 312% rise in searches through the What Car website.
The ŠKODA Fabia which is now in its third generation was praised for its practicality and low running costs, something car buyers are now looking for when they purchase a vehicle. This is now the second time the Fabia has took home the top award, it won back in 2000 when the first generation was released. The ŠKODA Fabia has been an extremely popular car with the British public since its release with over 250,000 sold in the UK, and an impressive 3.5 million sold worldwide.
ŠKODA recently celebrated their most successful year in their 119 history as they hit the 1 million mark for vehicles sold this year. Coincidentally the 1 millionth car rolled off the production line was a ŠKODA Fabia 1.2 TSI, which was donated to charity.
Speaking about their success ŠKODA UK Director Alasdair Stewart, said: ' We are delighted to have been given these accolades by What Car?. UK customers trust What Car? when they are buying a new car, and winning the Car of the Year award is the perfect introduction for the new Fabia on the UK market.
