Prior to the astronomic growth of the package holiday, the Lancashire seaside town of Blackpool was considered the place to be in the UK, particularly among holidaymakers — the affection that once existed has returned following a recent investment of £100m to the seafront. It is the marque of a traditional British holiday and this trip’s endpoint, in its sister pier in Weston Super Mare on the other side of Wales, is no different.

The Capital of Castles
Home to more than 600 castles, you wouldn’t be criticised for assuming that Wales had an affiliation with the impressive style of infrastructure. Regarded as, ‘the greatest castle never built’, Beaumaris, or beautiful marsh as is it is literally namesake suggests, is an architectural masterpiece. Having already constructed a host of supreme castles, Beaumaris was due to be Edward I’s crowning glory. Unfortunately, indigenous battling further north prevented the castle from achieving the presumed grandeur. It does, however, make for great viewing in modern day.
The Beatles Story
Rolling Stones magazine labelled the four-piece from Merseyside, who changed the game of music indefinitely, as the greatest band of all time. This exhibition, the world’s largest devotion to the Fab Four, is set in Liverpool’s Albert Dock area and includes an incredible collection of original memorabilia, including their, shall we say, ‘jazzy’ outfits and instruments.
Barry Island
Of course, Barry Island in South Wales has so much more to offer than iconic memes from the popular BBC television show Gavin and Stacey. But, for fans of the programme, why not ‘get your Bryn on’ and immerse in a whistle stop tour. Hop on Dave’s Coach, visit the two-up-two-down which housed Gwen and Stacey, and even grab an espresso at Marco’s.
