Preparing for the Journey

Packing Essentials for the Road Trip

Before you set off on your epic drive from England to Germany, it's crucial to pack wisely. Start with the basics; make sure your car is stocked with everything you need for a comfortable and safe trip. Essentials include a first aid kit, spare tyre, and emergency tools. Ensure you have reliable GPS or maps, along with anything you may need for charging your phone in the car.

Don’t forget to pack snacks and drinks for the road to keep your energy levels up. Comfort items like neck pillows and sunglasses can make long drives more pleasant. Lastly, ensure all your travel documents are in order, including your driving licence, car insurance, and passport.

Planning the Route and Important Stops Along the Way

A successful road trip starts with a well-planned route. Plot your course from England to Germany, considering factors like distance, road conditions, and points of interest. For those searching for scenic drives from England to Germany - popular routes often include passing through France, Belgium and the Netherlands. This allows you to experience different landscapes and cultures along the way.

Plan for regular stops to stretch, refuel, and explore. Noteworthy stops might include the picturesque city of Bruges in Belgium or the bustling streets of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Use these breaks to rest and soak up the local atmosphere, making your drive more enjoyable and less exhausting.

Car Maintenance for Long Distance Trips

Before embarking on a long drive, it’s essential to ensure your car is in top condition. Get a full service done to check the engine, brakes, tyres, and fluid levels. Make sure your car's air conditioning and heating systems are functioning properly, as weather conditions may vary. Your local Lookers dealership will be happy to help.

Pack a roadside emergency kit with items like jump leads, a tyre repair kit, and extra fluids. Check that your spare tyre is in good condition and that you know how to change a tyre if needed. A well-prepared car means a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable trip.

Arriving in Germany

Initial Impressions and Cultural Differences

Arriving in Germany brings a mix of excitement and curiosity. The country’s rich history and vibrant culture are evident from the moment you cross the border. You’ll notice the efficiency and orderliness of German roads and the friendly yet reserved nature of the locals.

Take the time to explore and try traditional dishes like bratwurst and pretzels!

Navigating the Local Area and Finding Accommodation

Once you've arrived, it’s time to settle in and explore. Navigating German roads and cities is relatively straightforward thanks to their well-maintained roads and clear signage. If you're staying in a major city, public transport is an excellent option for getting around – just prepare to leave extra time for travel during the Euros as public transport is expected to be very busy!

Finding accommodation is easy with numerous options ranging from hotels to bed and breakfasts. Booking in advance ensures you have a comfortable place to stay, especially during busy events like the Euros. Look for places near the stadium or in vibrant neighbourhoods to make the most of your stay.

Making the Most of Your Time Before the Matches

If you’re looking for pre-match activities at the Euros, you may like to explore local attractions and immerse yourself in the city. If time allows, you could visit local landmarks, museums, and parks to get a feel for the area.

Meeting fellow football fans in local pubs or fan zones is a must to heighten the pre-match excitement.

Yesterday we caught up with Tim, a Lookers customer and England fan, who drove to Germany for the England Vs Serbia match. He shared with us his experience of the fan zones, the build-up, the match and the drive:

‘Everything was so well organised. Before the England game, we spent time in a fan zone outside the city. It held a huge capacity, solely for England fans and was set-up like a mini festival. The atmosphere inside was brilliant and we were able to watch other games being played on the big screens. The game itself didn’t disappoint either – although we’d have loved to see England score more goals, we were happy seeing a 1 – 0 win!

Along with two friends, I drove to Germany in a BMW X5 50e plug-in hybrid, which was very fuel efficient, extremely comfortable, and the roads were great to drive on. We wouldn’t hesitate to do it again – maybe even to see England in the final..!’
