Jaguar E-Type on Top in Hunt for Best Ever British Car

16th July 2015

The hunt to find the Best British Car is nearly over and recent results show that the Jaguar E-Type is currently in the lead. Classic Car & Magazine began a global poll earlier this year to discover the world's favourite classic car. The poll which closes on the 1st August asks people to choose from a shortlist of ten classic cars. The Jaguar E-Type is currently leading with the Mini Cooper S hot on its heels in 2nd place, and the Austin Seven in 3rd.

The Jaguar E-Type

The winner of the global poll will be announced at the Classic & Sports Car – The London Show, held at Alexandra Palace from 30th October to 1st November. The event will also include a display of around 300 classic cars from some of the world's most well-known and prestigious brands.

The Jaguar E-Type which was once described by Enzo Ferrari as the 'Most Beautiful Car Ever' will be on display along with the other ten classic models in the running for the best ever title. The top ten Best British Car list looks like this:

Mini Cooper S & Austin Seven

McLaren F1 & Range Rover

Lotus Seven & Bentley Speed Six

Ford GT40 & Jaguar XKSS

Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost

James Elliot the Group Editor of Classic Car & Magazine said of the ‘beautiful’ Jaguar E-Type: “The E-type is without doubt one of the most beautiful and desirable British cars ever. I’m not surprised to see that it’s currently leading the thousands of votes we’ve received. It is a true icon. “With the poll so tight, though, just a few votes could make all the difference! Our amazing shortlist is full of pioneers and with just a few weeks to go before the poll closes, I would urge people to vote now for their favourite and make their feelings heard. I can’t wait to reveal the winner at Alexandra Palace this autumn with all the pomp and ceremony it deserves.”

There is still time to vote for your favourite by visiting before the 1st August. You can also get your tickets for the Classic & Sports Car Show on the website.
