Myth Busting Apprenticeships
Myth: Apprenticeships are for people who don’t do well at school.
Myth busted: Not true! Apprenticeships are simply an alternative route into skilled employment. They are a great way to earn while you learn, gain vital work experience, and set yourself on a fast-track to a successful career.
Myth: Apprentices are not well paid.
Myth busted: Apprenticeship pay rates vary depending on your age and apprenticeship level and increase throughout your apprenticeship. After your apprenticeship you receive a very competitive salary, for example as a qualified Technician it can range anywhere from £22,000 to £46,000 depending on your role. The good news is we have clear career paths in place for you to follow!
Myth: Apprenticeships are only for traditional industries, like manufacturing or construction.
Myth busted: It's not just trades like Joinery, Plumbing and Bricklaying that offer apprenticeships. Granted, apprenticeships like these have been going on for a long time, but there are so many more, such as IT Software Development, Technician and Accountancy.
Myth: Apprentices only have limited potential - otherwise they'd be at university.
Myth busted: Just because a person chooses not to go to university (and an increasing number are doing just that) it doesn't mean they won't be a success in later life. For example, what do Sir Alex Ferguson, Jamie Oliver and Alan Titchmarsh have in common? Correct - they were all once apprentices!
Myth: Apprenticeships are just for people who leave school as soon as they possibly can.
Myth busted: No - apprenticeships are available for people no matter how old they are, as long as they're over 16. There's nothing stopping anyone taking on an apprenticeship, right up to retirement age!
