The Supercar Event organised by Lookers has raised £17,500 for The Princes’s Trust North East.

Hailed as a “roaring success” the supercharged fundraiser, held over 2 days in May this year, was organised by Group Marketing’s Peter Gordon and Debbie Hardwicke in conjunction with Event Management company ‘She's Gott It’.

The legendary Croft Racing Circuit in Darlington hosted some of the world’s most desirable marques including Aston Martin, Bentley, Audi, Ferrari and Maserati with thrill seekers offered a unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of some of these iconic and powerful supercars.

Following 48 hours of adrenaline-fuelled activities, a charity auction was held at the 5 Star Rockliffe Hall hotel to raise additional funds. Entertainment included guest speakers with the former “Stig” from BBC Top Gear, Ben Collins and Le Mans Sports car star Johnny Mowlem, who also treated some of the guests to an exhilarating ride around the circuit at race pace.

Held in memory of leading businessman John Wall, the special event recognised his life-long commitment to charity. Mr Wall who died in June 2014 held a senior role as chair of The Prince’s Trust Development Committee in the North East region, among other charities.

The Prince’s Trust, which is committed to supporting younger people who are unemployed as well as those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion, was formally presented with a cheque for the total amount by Lookers’ managing director, Nigel McMinn who said he who recognised the invaluable work carried out by the charity.

“This event, which is a crucial part of our corporate responsibility, has proved incredibly popular and we’re already in the planning stages for a similar driving challenge next year."

“We’re delighted to have raised this amount of money for such an inspirational charity, and pay tribute to our loyal customers who supported the Supercar driving challenge and The Princes Trust,” Nigel added.

Nigel presented the cheque for £17,500 to Rachel Ronchetti, Head of Programmes at The Prince’s Trust, who praised the generosity of Lookers’ guests.

Rachel said: “This level of generosity is very much appreciated by The Prince’s Trust and the young people we work with and will go a long way to improving opportunities for them to make their way in life.

“On behalf of those young people, we’d like to say a huge thank you, not just to Lookers plc but to their many customers who helped raise this amazing amount of money at what was an incredible event.”
