Performance
The Audi S8 is equipped with a V8 engine with mild hybrid technology which provides great performance and smoothness. For moments when power takes precedence, automatically actuated flaps in the exhaust system highlight the already impressive V8 sound. To balance this, active noise cancellation is integrated into the cars sound system so that less desirable sound intrusion is reduced.
The mild hybrid system (MHEV) reduces fuel consumption and offers fuel savings of up to 0.8 litres per 100km in everyday driving conditions, and along with the cylinder on demand system, makes the S8 an economical option.
Dynamics
The Aud S8 is the right balance between a luxury limousine and a sports car. Predictive active suspension works with adaptive air suspension to lift or push down each wheel independently to suit any driving situation and reduce pitch or roll during acceleration or braking. The font camera detects more obvious road surface abnormalities so that this can be done predictively. The Audi S8 also comes with Audi drive select which allows the driver to choose from five modes, including new Comfort+ which makes cornering more comfortable by tilting the body into bends as much as 3 degrees.
Equipment
On the exterior, Matrix LED headlights provide excellent views ahead, with an upgrade to HD matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light and OLED rear lights available on request.
The interior is where the S8 really shines, with a whole host of features and technology at your fingertips. Sit comfortably in the standard sport seats with power adjustment, pneumatically adjustable side bolsters, three-stage heating, ventilation and massage functions. You can choose between the top leather grades Valcona and Unikat.
There are 38 driver assistance systems provided in the new S8 which are divided into the City and Tour packages, the latter is standard on all A8 models in the UK. The systems include Adaptive cruise assist which includes the functions of adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and lane tracking. The City package has Audi pre sense side which, combined with pre sense front and rear, creates Audi pre sense 360.
Technology
Two large screen displays allow the driver to control nearly all functions in the S8, although you can also choose to use natural speech control if preferred. Alexa, Amazon's cloud-based voice assistant, comes as standard on this new model. All driving-relevant information is displayed in the Audi virtual cockpit which has a choice of two views while the head-up display can show important information on the windscreen.
MMI navigation plus provides the infotainment and media centre in the new model. The Audi connect range has a variety of car-to-x services including online traffic information, hazard alerts and on-street parking search functionality. The myAudi app can connect the car to your smartphone so you can easily send destinations to the car from your home computer.
