My Audi R8 Adventure

Cameron recently got to experience the Audi R8 and decided to write a blog to tell us all about it! A huge thank you to Cameron and his dad for sending this over, we're delighted you enjoyed it.

Hello, my name is Cameron (that’s me in the photo).

Thanks to my Dad, the Make 2nds Count charity and Lookers Audi I was able to have a once in a lifetime experience at the beginning of June, in a brand new Audi R8. My Dad had told me that we were going to go to the Lookers Audi garage and see if they had any cars available, but he actually surprised me by coming to my school and collecting me at lunchtime on Friday. The car looked amazing and all of my friends at school wanted to hear it start up, before they went home. After I got over the surprise, my dad and me left the school and started our journey to Fort William. The weather was wet most of the way, but the four-wheel drive was great and the car felt so smooth. We stopped for some photos on the way, when it was drier and took some GoPro video as well – you can see it in the video below. The drive was amazing, especially through Glencoe.

On Friday night, we went to see the Mountain Bike World Cup site, as we were a bit worried about getting the car into the car park, but the guys there loved the car and said that they would make sure we got a space!

On Saturday when we arrived, one of the people directing the cars gave my Dad and me a suggestion about where to go with the car, which had wide open roads; he was very nice and loved the car as well. We decided to leave the Mountain Biking early to go on the drive, which was brilliant! The road went from Fort William to Mallaig and was twisty, but a lot of it was new tarmac, so we loved it. On the way, we stopped at the Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct, which was used in the Harry Potter films and then got fish and chips in Mallaig, before we had the amazing drive to the hotel. This photo was taken on this drive.

In the evening, we decided to drive to the Commando Memorial that is near Fort William. I had never been before and didn’t know that my Great Grandad had been in the Commando’s, so I saw a plaque that is there for him for the first time, which was really cool. That is where the photo at the top was taken.
On Sunday we went to the Mountain Bike racing and then drove home after it had finished. The drive home, especially through Glencoe, was amazing as there was only a little rain and the road was mostly dry. We stopped to take so many photos that we passed the same motor home three times, before we got to Callander.

On Monday, my Dad let me have a day off school and we drove round the Scottish Borders, after my Dad had washed the car! Near St Mary’s Loch, we met some men from Belgium who were driving vintage cars and stopped to speak to them. One had a 1929 Bentley Speed 6, which I looked up on Google and was worth £4M, but he told us not to give the R8 back!

We eventually gave the car back to George at Lookers Audi in the afternoon and it was great to meet him and Barry in the showroom – my Dad had told me they were really nice and they were.

I loved my whole weekend, but the thing I remember and noticed most was the looks that you get in the car from other people - they are amazing. We met some really nice people and there were three people in particular, who were looking at the car, when we came out of a shop that and when we opened the car, they turned around and started talking to us, so we showed them around the car and then when we started the car and their faces were amazing.

I know this is the last year Audi will make the R8, so I am really pleased that I got the chance to drive round in this amazing car.
