We all know how dangerous it is to leave a dog locked in a car on a hot day, to show the danger PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has released a video showing an NFL player locked in a car in searing temperatures.
The video shows Arizona Cardinals player Tyrann Mathieu getting into the passenger's seat of an SUV. The temperature is shown as 90 degrees outside, but as the minutes pass inside the car the temperature climbs to an unbearable 97 degrees. Within 2 minutes Mathieu begins to struggle as the temperature inside the car rises and his body begins to overheat. As Mathieu sits sweating away he says ' if you going to make a dog a part of your family, make them a part of your family , don't treat them like you wouldn't treat someone you care about, someone you love'. After 8 minutes inside the car the temperature rises to 120 degrees which is the point where Mathieu gives up and jumps out of the car struggling for a breath.
The video was released to show people how extremely dangerous leaving dogs in cars can be. As the video points out dogs can't sweat which means they cannot cool themselves down like we can. It also points out that dogs organs begin to fail at 105 degrees when heatstroke kicks in, and unlike Tyrann Mathieu who could open the door to escape the heat a dog cant.
The video is certainly an eye-opener and PETA are hoping it will discourage people from leaving their dogs in cars even if it's only for a couple of minutes. PETA's advice for anyone who spots a dog locked in a car on a hot day is to call the police and wait until they or the owner arrives.
