All-electric vehicles rely on a large traction battery pack to power the electric motor and must be plugged into a wall box charger or electric vehicle charging equipment to obtain the power required. Their technology is changing and advancing rapidly, with increased range and expanded features on every new model.
Most fully electric vehicles are available to buy new and have a range of 150 – 250 miles on a single charge, depending on the model. This makes BEVs perfect for commuting, city driving and most medium distance trips.
A downside to pure electric vehicles is the requirement to plan ahead for a long journey. This is to factor in the need to spend 30-40 minutes using a rapid charger whilst en-route to your destination that is out of reach of your 100% electric vehicle’s range.
While range anxiety is a consideration to factor in when making longer journeys, there are many benefits to consider such as the flexibility of charging at home or at the office at a time that electricity is cheaper, near-silent running noise, and the lowest running costs of any electric vehicle.
