A low and sweeping roofline immediately sets the GLE apart from its rivals – giving the car a fresh, sharply-defined look. From the compact rear, complete with slender tail lights, the roof curves over the GLE’s broad frame and tapers into the bold front end.
With an aggressive, forward-moving stance, the GLE has considerable road presence. The deep air-intakes, angulated fascia and dramatic 21-inch alloy wheels add further energy to the rugged, purposeful appearance.
Interior
A generously equipped cabin comes with a touchscreen infotainment system, where the controls have been integrated into one easily-managed console. Expertly-crafted and fitted with high-quality materials – including a glossy black veneer – the dashboard is clean and logically designed. What’s more, a range of customisable options allows you to style the cabin to your own tastes. Coming as standard, however, is a plush racing-style steering wheel and comfortable, finely-upholstered seating.
Engines and performance
The 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine available in the 350d variant is able to deliver 255bhp, taking the car from 0-62mph in seven seconds. If you require even more speed, the AMG trim’s V6 petrol unit uses 520Nm of torque to attain speeds of up to 155mph – sprinting from 0-62mph in under six seconds.
Rev the engine and a satisfying rumble enlivens the cabin, creating an even more engaging drive. Meanwhile, a nine-speed gearbox ensures smooth gear changes and Airmatic adaptive suspension adds further comfort. Minimal body roll, responsive steering and the Mercedes driver select system allow you to fully appreciate the GLE’s sporty character.
Safety and technology
Adaptive LED headlights and crosswind stability are among the impressive range of safety kit fitted as standard. You’ll also benefit from preventative systems such as an anti-collision function which minimises the severity of low-speed impacts. Driver, passenger and side airbags, along with ISOFIX points, are also included.
