Once again the Geneva Motor Show has played host to some exciting news - this time acting as the backdrop for the reveal of the World Car of the Year finalists.

Meanwhile, the 2016 World Luxury Car of the Year award will choose its winner from the Audi Q7, BMW 7 Series and Volvo XC90 models. Two of the prestigious German carmakers are also in the running for the title of World Performance Car with judges having to choose between between the Audi R8, the Honda Civic Type R and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe.
And in the green section the Chevrolet Volt - a relatively new addition - is set to race the Toyota Mirai and Toyota Prius to the finish line to bring home the title of 2016 World Green Car. And lets not forget the love of the aesthetic - World Car Design of the Year award will be decided between the Jaguar XE, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda MX-5.
Who will make the final decision you ask? Well that's up to the 73 international automotive journalists who will debate on the merits of each finalist with the results being announced during the New York International Auto Show on March 24.
Earlier this week, the Vauxhall Astra was announced as the winner of the 2016 European Car of the Year. Despite this achievement, there’s no place for Vauxhall’s latest family car in any of the World Car of the Year award categories.
