A Lookers nine-seater minibus from Renault & Dacia, Benfield Road, has been chaperoning children at Dellybears nursery in Gateshead to both educational and recreational field trip destinations in the Newcastle area.
The newly named ‘Bear Bus’, which the two nursery owners have invested in and are insured and registered to drive, will allow for additional outings that are vital for each youngster’s social, creative and communicative growth.
With seating on the bus for up to seven children at a time, plus ample boot space for pushchairs, prams, picnic essentials and toys for outdoor pursuits, the summer schedule is already brimming with dynamic activities.
Mark Lewis, who runs the nursery with his partner Adele, commented; “Day trips at Dellybears have proven increasingly popular since we opened back in 2014 and to keep the momentum going in the summer holidays, we recognised the need for a larger vehicle.
“After approaching the Lookers dealership on Benfield Road, we were particularly impressed with how quickly they were able to deliver a suitable minibus.”
Spruced up with graphics of the nursery’s trademark teddy bears and logo, and with its affectionate nickname ‘The Bear Bus’ on the front and back windscreen, the bus has been a crowd-pleaser amongst parents, teachers and general passers-by.
Adele said; “So far, the bus has been brilliant, not only for school runs, but for being able to go on more regular excursions that offer them a broader experience, sparking hobbies and interests and allowing them to fulfil their potential.”
Welcoming children of all ages, the family-run nursery keeps a record of favourite adventures, including National Trust heritage sites Wallington Hall, Souter Lighthouse and Gibside, the historic Tynemouth Castle and hidden gem of the borough, Saltwell Park.
With a shared aspiration between Mark and Adele to introduce further clubs, such as an after-school club and nursery holiday club, there is ongoing talk of a possible second minibus and future vehicles.
