Lookers is moving up a gear in Teesside in a major £3 million redevelopment and transformation of its Newport Road Volkswagen dealership.
With work well under way and nearing completion, the UK and Ireland’s leading motor retailer is bringing both its local Volkswagen car and van sites together into one consolidated location at the redeveloped Newport Road location, creating an unrivalled customer experience in contemporary, innovative surroundings.
As part of the plans, Lookers Volkswagen Van Centre at Thornaby will relocate fully at the end of this month to Newport Road which is still open to the public for car sales and aftersales service.
Features of the redeveloped dealership include a world class car showroom displaying 10 new vehicles, spacious consultation rooms and a relaxing hospitality area equipped with WiFi and Apple TVs for customer use, in addition to two dedicated handover bays.
Complemented by an unrivalled selection of more than 100 used cars and 45 used vans on site, in a pristine, spacious environment, Lookers’ staff will work in partnership with customers to refine their preferred new vehicle, delivering a bespoke brochure unique to them with images, video, pricing and all the technical information they need.
With an experienced local team of more than 60 staff, Lookers Volkswagen Teesside has invested heavily in its aftersales service provision, with 10 ramps for servicing, diagnostics and MOT testing, office space and workshops.
Fully equipped with the latest electric vehicle infrastructure, the dealership includes five dedicated electric chargers for both cars and vans, reflecting Lookers’ wider commitment to sustainability and the move towards all-electric driving.

The redeveloped dealership will help to facilitate Volkswagen’s blended retailing offer, which combines a digital and showroom experience that takes customers on a seamless retail journey where they are always in the driving seat and is the latest significant investment by Lookers in Teesside in recent years.
In 2019, Lookers completed the development of Teesside’s first-ever FordStore in a £3m renovation and extension project at the former Jennings Group site which Lookers had acquired.
