Top Gear trio go Prime with Amazon

It's the news car fans the world over have been waiting for. Ex-Top Gear presenters, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have signed a deal to present a new motoring show with Amazon Prime.

The show – as yet untitled – is expected to air globally sometime in 2016. The trio famously left the BBC after Clarkson was dropped following a 'fracas' with a Top Gear Producer .

A statement on Amazon's said that the presenters were: “reuniting to create an all-new car show, exclusively for Amazon Prime"

Referring to his new employer, Jeremy Clarkson said “I feel like I've climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship."

Taking to Twitter James May remarked: “Good news! I've got a job with @AmazonVideoUK. Bad news! So have the other two."

The announcement brings to an end months of speculation about the stars' future. Internet streaming providers Netflix and Sky were both rumoured to have been interested in making a show with the presenters.

Jay Marine, vice president of Amazon Prime Video EU, said: "Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen. "Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows. We can't wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016."

There are no details on how much the deal is worth.

Meanwhile at the BBC Chris Evans was recently announced as the main host of Top Gear.
