It’s all warm coats, woolly hats and gloves at the ready and turning up our heating to 11.

So why don’t we afford our cars the same protection?

At Lookers, we’ll make sure that your vehicle is ready for winter by giving it a thorough inspection.

Our Winter Health Check will cover everything from your car’s electrical functions to the health of your tyres, from your battery to whether you’ve packed the necessary equipment to get you out of a tight spot in the snow.

Get a Grip

Have you fitted winter tyres yet? Well it may be time to get a grip!

This is because the traction provided by regular tyres drops significantly in temperatures below 7 degrees centigrade as their tread compound begins to harden.

Winter tyres can deal with this no problem. They use a rubber and tread pattern that is designed to retain flexibility in the coldest of temperatures.

We’ve got a vast range of winter tyres to fit most models, with experts on hand to advise on those most suited to your vehicle, driving habits and the kind of conditions you are most likely to encounter.

Book a Lookers Winter Health Check today and order your Winter Tyres by calling today. We’ll make sure you’re ready for winter. Bring it on!

Top 10 Tips

1. Keep it Clear

Reduce your speed and turn on your headlights and fog lights if visibility is poor.

2. Ring Ahead

In bad conditions, tell someone where you are going and when you expect to arrive, then call them when you get there. Including your mum and dad of course.

3. Take care on Country Roads

Country roads are full of hazards, resulting in 60% of all road fatalities. Watch out for sharp corners and tractors and badgers and sheep and flying saucers and…..

4. Keep it topped up

Keep your fuel tank, washer fluids and anti-freeze topped up in case of unexpected long journeys.

5. Check your tyres

Regularly check the depth of your tyre tread. The legal minimum is 1.6mm.

6. Fit Winter Tyres

The grip on regular tyres drops significantly in temperatures below 7 degrees as their tread compound hardens. Winter tyres retain the flexibility needed for the cold.

7. Pack your car’s first aid kit

Ice scraper. Check. Anti-freeze spray. Check. Sponge. Check. Extra screen wash. Check. Driving Gloves? Nice.

8. Snow Chains

Unleash your inner Mad Max by fitting chains to your tyres. Also useful in deep snow.

9. Recover from Wheelspin

If you notice wheelspin, fight the urge to floor the accelerator. Back off the gas and then re-apply smoothly, keeping the engine speed as low as possible until you regain your grip.

10. Escape a Skid

For a rear-wheel or all-wheel skid - steer into the skid. For a front-wheel skid, straighten the steering wheel.
